SSC Stenographer 2025 Overview

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Stenographer Grade C and D examination annually. In 2025, the notification is expected to bring thousands of vacancies across central government ministries and departments.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 18–27 years (Grade D), 18–30 years (Grade C)
  • Education: Class 12 pass (any stream)
  • Skill: Shorthand in English or Hindi at prescribed speeds

CBE (Computer Based Examination)

Skill Test

Dictated passage at 100/80 WPM. Transcription on computer. No negative marking in skill test.

12-Month Preparation Plan

Months 1–3: Foundation

  • Learn all Pitman consonants and vowels
  • Practice basic words and phrases daily
  • Target: 30 WPM

Months 4–6: Building Speed

  • Phrase building and word grouping
  • Daily dictation at 40–50 WPM
  • Begin CBE subject preparation simultaneously

Months 7–9: Intensive Speed Building

  • Daily 2-hour dictation practice
  • Target: 70–80 WPM
  • Mock tests for CBE

Months 10–12: Exam Mode

  • Full speed dictation at 90–100 WPM
  • Transcription accuracy drills
  • CBE full mock tests weekly
